I disagree that there is no 'mechanical stop'. That occurs when the short straight part at the end of the camming surface contacts the fence body/wear plates. This occurs with All lever type fence clamps.

I do agree that one should NOT be able to move the lever further(at that point the parts are jamming together. That click you hear is the cam going slightly 'over the center' into the stopped position.

More wind uncontaminated by actual hands on experience.

Mechanical stop in quotes. It only becomes a "mechanical stop" if the nut is adjusted properly. The OP has not tightened the adjustment nut sufficiently. All of this applies to the upper handle also.

Thanks for all the responses. I have now followed your suggestions about the correct positions of the locking levers and it seems to be working. I am really impressed with the quality of the advice and the nice tone of the comments despite my obvious lack of knowledge.

There is not an 'expert' here that has not seen action in thy shoes. So no reason to be other than helpful.
