Original belt sizes were 22 1/2 and 25 1/2. 23/26 places the motor about 1/2" lower.*

Absolutely, bonus points for multi coloured paint drips. ;)

I think the 3/4 hp motor is a bit more rotund, so that may account for the difference in clearance. ;)

And this motor is a chubby bastard compared to the others I've seen posted.

It's not a lightweight either.

Rotund is probably the more appropriate way of describing the motor, but seriously, there's more iron in this thing than a 1985 Oldsmobile diesel...

The 3/4 HP Motor is much larger than the standard 1/2 HP Motor. Because of it's larger diameter it puts the motor shaft farther away from the Headstock Pulley and at the same time has less clearance to the bench.

The Speed Changer originally used 22-1/2" and 25-1/2" Belts Since the 1/2" increments are not available it is common to use a 22" and 25" Belts. I have even used those sizes with the 3/4 HP Motor. It is a bit tight getting them on so 23" and 25" could work well although I have not tried that belt size combination. You do not want to use belts that are to long and cause the Motor to be on the bench as you have already found out. When realigning the floating pulley have one belt at the outer edge and the other almost touching the bottom of the pulley. When setting the 0 to 5 indicator change the speed to slow and set the zero next to the indicator. Turn it up to the high speed and check if it is next to the 5. Only change the speed while it is running and turn it off to set the indicator. You can repeat that for the other speed range and it should run through the 0 to 5 range the same. If it does not indicate the same 0 to 5 as the other speed range it may be caused by the different size belts being closer in length. Remember DON"T over crank the handle past the ends of the speed range. That can cause the castings to break.

Note the springs on either side of the rotating arm that moves the sc pulley. The important thing is to NEVER crank further if the spring being collapsed do so fully. At that point something has to give. Unfortunately often that something is the arm. :mad:

Here's a little high speed changer action. The table is rumbling at 4...I'm missing some belt length so I'm not getting the full 0-5 range. At least I think that's the case.
