I am also a new Shopsmith 10 er owner. I am currently restoring it and have lots of questions and need several parts. I have tried to join the Shopsmith 10er group but have been refused saying they weren't taking any new members. How can I join this group?

Skip, the owner of that group has some current health issues, which is delaying your joining.

On the other hand, there are a few members here, that have real cast iron Shopsmiths, that would be GLAD to help you.

So, what can we (or I) do to help you? I've got 4 ERs and 2 of my brothers have an ER each.

JPG, they's not a WHOLE lot of difference between the E model and the ER model. They's both made out of cast iron, instead of aluminium.

This sounds great. I am still in the processof identifying the parts that I have from the owners guide. I can't figure out the lathe. It talks of a fixed tailstock and a movable headstock. Is the Jacobs chuck removed to in stall the movable head stock and how does the perm tailstock attach. I am also going to need some blades for the jig saw but I haven't gotton into it to see whatelse. Is there somewhere where new or used parts can be ordered other than E-bay or MKC?
How do I comment other than responding to a "quote" and how can I submit pictures?

Bob just wanted to welcome you. To answer the last two questions you had if you just click on the Post Reply Button (Located at the Top Left or Bottom Left of Page) you can post without Quotes. Or you can also as you already probably know use the Quote Button inside of someone's post. And next to that is the button you would use to make a Quick Reply to a Message someone has posted.

I hope this helps a little and yes I am patient and so are most of the others on here from what I have experienced. Great group of Shopsmith Users and Owners here. They have been very helpful to me and I am glad to be here.

Let's see if this works. That is the tailstock, for the ER. It also holds the extension table, on the right end. (You can also use it on the left end, but just to hold the ext table.) You need a live (Bearing) or dead (no bearing) center for the tailstock.

You also need some kind of drive mechanism, A, here is the basic drive spur. B, is a dead center,and C, is a live center. You can also use faceplates, and chucks. Yes, all the drive stuff mounts where you have the drill chuck.

That whole BIG piece of cast iron, with the motor underneath, is the headstock. There is a lock, that thing with the bent handle, by the front way tube, that locks it in place. there is another, that locks the quill in place, too.

Oh, just about anything that will mount on the spindle on Mk models (the newer stuff) will mount on the ER.
