But i just have yet to figure it out. I would love to be able to work such a program as I have many ideals that I would like to try out on them.
You sound like me! Sketchup drives me NUTS. It IS however a GREAT FREEBIE!!!!!! I have only recently 'discovered' why it was driving me NUTS! The mode in which it defaults is CONSTANTLY giving me views in some perspective(camera angle view). Example: A 'rear' view will include surfaces that are NOT visible in an orthographic view(camera perpendicular to the object and centered on the object).
I am not sure of this but I think if you select the parallel projection option under Camera you will find it more to your liking.

I now have some kind of internet explorer trouble when I click on the cutlist plugin I get and ie error. Not sure yet why. My computer is not the best one out there and I use compuserve as my isp it is a propietary browser so this may be my problem any ideas. I'm getting closer though. I don't really need the cutlist for this project just thought it would be fun. Thanks in advance for being the wall to bonce off of.
Jim, the display windows for CutList are generated in HTML, so it's using your default browser window to display them. You might try checking your browser's security settings or it may possibly be a plug-in that's not well-behaved, or just try setting a different browser as your default (for a test)...

Tom,
That makes total sense to me. I will try that tonight. My default browser is the Compu Serve Browser and it doesn't work with a lot of the newer type of web site so I have to use it to login to the web and then run IE for some sites. As you can probably tell my ISP is really old and not supported anymore but it is what it is for me. Out here in the country I don't have any of the high speed stuff to I really don't need anything new. Thank you again.

Hi,
A short while back I did a short tutorial on getting started with sketchup which might be of some use to those just getting started, it is at:
http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthr ... t=sketchup
You can find some other information using the search function.
I haven't been using it for a couple of months now so I really need to get back at it. I got to the point my old video card was crashing so I decided to upgrade to a new video card which I found out required me to get a new power supply. Limited budget lead me to get the power supply one month then the video card then next... I'm now upgraded but haven't had the time to make any more progress or to test out the new equipment.
It is really nice to be able to work in 3D, and for free.

kd6vpe,
I think you will find that FireFox which is a open source browser and free will work better with your connection that that of IE and it will use alot less of your CPU and may even help your computer run better as well while you are online.
Just MHO is all.
but IE is a very large program that eats up a tons of your memory and even causes some of your bandwidth to be uses up more so than other browsers would. mostly because of the trouble shooting programs that are constantly running in the back ground with IE. where you would not have that in Firefox because it is not as dependent to one source as is IE.
Lease that is the way it was explained to me in my college networking classes

thus the reason i switched and have yet togo back to IE except for a very few cases where the site developer did not or does not support Fire fox in his programming of his site.
Also the fact that it gave my a 10 point bonus on my class scores if I installed it and wrote up a way to improve it.

Here is a site where the owner provides video either on the spot or down-loadable to view later.

Well, you never stop learning things. I just stumbled upon a fix or work-around for the original reason for this thread. If you are creating parts that are not normal to the standard X-Y-Z axis, and create a group or component, the bounding box of the group or component is dependent upon the axis in effect WHEN THE GROUP IS CREATED.... If you look at the image below, the bounding box for the lid for the box is normal to the surfaces of the LID, not the global XYZ axis, and this is because I changed the axis normal to the part before making the group. Now, even though the axis is reset to the global axis, the bounding box is still normal to the canted surface. This should allow CutList to calculate the sizes correctly. Live and learn...
