I agree.

I wanted to inform those who are Porter Cable owners (like myself) of the death of great tools, and what once was a great company.

I was in my local Woodcraft yesterday and they had several Porter Cable routers on the shelf. If my wife was not with me, at least one would have made it to the car! Sigh....

Seems a shame people at Porter Cable spent their working lives building up a great reputation for their tools. And some short term money grubbers pillaged that reputation.

It makes one appreciate the longevity of shopsmith even more!
I turned away from PC a while ago when they could not provide a replacement part for a fairly new miter saw.

Sad only if you own or want to own Porter Cable. I feel that they priced themselves out of the market.

It has been a few years since I purchased Porter Cable tools, but I still own and use several of their products. When I shopped for them, the Porter Cable versions were always priced kind of in the middle, i.e. not the cheapest and not the most expensive.

It will really be a sad day when the PC 75182 3 1/4HP motor will no longer be available to install in a router table. Mine is almost 20 years old installed in my Norm inspired table with a Bench Dog cast iron top and router lift.

I agree, RFGuy. I priced a new PC model 691 about 6 months ago, and price wise it was right there with other d-handle router big name brands, such as: Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch, to name a few. Porter Cable was known for quality. I'm guessing BigSky appreciates and pays for higher quality tools, if he's a Shopsmith owner. Why else would someone be on this forum?

BigSky had commented that Porter Cable was overpriced so maybe he isn't paying for higher quality tools.
