Since the lower guards all attach to the end of the quill the total distance the face of a sanding disk is positioned is different for each one and should be considered. The Conical Sanding Disk is made with a longer hub for the Mark 7 and Mark V 520, 510 & 505. If you were to measure the distance from hub end to the furthest part of the disk face is 2-3/4". The Steel Disks measure 2-1/8" for the long hub and 1-3/8" for the short hub. The Aluminum Disks, both 6 and 12 ribs measure 1-3/16"
That's what I started out planning on. I was going to do something sitting on the way tubes as shown here:

I thought something mounted on the spindle would be ideal but there was the issue with the different hub lengths, and also finding easy to work lightweight materials to use. I found some 1/4" PVC panels that I think should be lightweight enough so I began to rethink this.
Below is a crude drawing of what I'm looking at. A piece of plastic pipe will slip over the quill and be held on with something as simple as a band clamp. The whole assembly is slotted so sanding disks can drop in and the pipe can slide along the quill to account for the different hub lengths. I'll use 3/4" and thicker PVC boards for spacing and reinforcement. I think I can toss together a first pass at this quickly and make sure it will be stable with this construction. If the 1/4" PVC material seems to heavy I also have some of the corrugated plastic stuff that is extremely light.

I see nothing wrong with your concept; sizing the various pieces being the only obstacles.

I remember that previous thread. Yours looks like an interesting project or you could get this.

That chute was high on the list. The one in the other thread has the advantage of simplicity, just rest it on the way tubes and there's room to move the disk in and out on the quill too. This one is attractive mainly for being interesting, kind of fun, and now it seems slightly easier to do than I thought before.
Anyway, if I have piece of pipe that will fit well on the quill I'll work up something quickly so I can see if I'm heading in the right direction.

Thanks Dusty, that's a great diagram to have on hand. Looks like the dimensions show a 510/520 table with extension tube locations and a table saw blade.
