When looking at many of these old machines it’s easy to wonder how they run at all. The 10ER I am the current caretaker of was in much worse condition before MickyD restored it, and now I’ve used it to finish my woodworking bench and a few other things before getting sidetracked with another of his restores, a 1955 Mark 5. This is what mine looked like when he got it:

Understand WHY the first pix is upside down?

It has to do with positional information included in the photo’s metadata that is not correctly interpreted by the phpBB forum system. They show up correctly on other modern photo viewers. That is why we have to always take our photos on the iPhone with the phone turned to a specific side. Fortunately, if we have the time, we can retake the photo, edit our message, delete the old photo and replace it with the new one. It’s a hassle, but once we figure out what is expected when taking the original photo, we can consistently post great photos. But then, sometimes “I” forget!

Flipped with Windows Photo Editor

On a PC even if you have no photo editor you can simply use Paint to resize, rotate, and flip pictures quickly.

What is the extra hardware on the motor? It looks like some sort of shoe above the motor pulley and an extra pulley behind it. What’s going on there?

I think you're seeing another motor (with pulley) behind the 10ER motor, sitting on the 10ER bench.

The reason I asked this was to have you realize the different positioning of the camera when you took the pix.

Googling now! Evaporust and electrolysis sounds pretty cool. I’m assuming they are good ways to removed rust and clean parts

If you look at MickyD's restoration thread I posted above, he has quite a bit posted about his electrolysis process, as well as his use of Evaporust. That is how my machine was cleaned up. They are amazing.

Major reason for using either process is NO GOOD METAL IS REMOVED.
