My son helped me get the motor sheaves off. A little tight at first but they weren't frozen. I'll take the measurements when I can, been a long day for me already.

The measurements in your drawing are correct. The diameter of the sheave is 5 1/2".

The control sheave shaft inner diameter is 3/4", as is the outer diameter of the button bearing. The inner diameter of the button bearing is 3/16", as is the diameter of the round button post. Since the bearing is press fit in the shaft, and the button press fit in the bearing there may be slight variances that I can't accurately measure. However, since axial pressure is applied to the button bearing assembly from both directions it should not need an extremely tight fit.

The round button post seems to be 15/64" long, which is also the thickness of the bearing. The square button post is 3/8" on a side and approximately 5/16" long.
I will double check these measurements later on.

Thank you again for your time and effort. This is exactly the information that I wanted. What I conclude from this and what information I already had is that the sheave are initially manufactured the same.

It wasn't until a couple days ago that I even knew the sheave went into the spring. Call me non-observant or slow on the up-take but I did not know. After all, I have had my Shopsmith for just a little over twenty years. I bought it in 1989.

NOT YET but am working to correct that!

Ed and Dusty,

Other than the fixed sheave on the Idler shaft being Gilmer instead of Poly V I believe the Control Sheave should be the same. The other differences would be the eccentric with the first Mark 5's made before the introduction in March of 1954 and for a time after but that makes no difference to your questions.

I can't remember if the idler shaft is the same diameter from the hub end to the Control Sheave end. I have been wondering that since my post the other day.

I hope all of you are okay and didn't suffer any damage.
