Wow, I've been wanting to try my hand at segment turning.

My MiterSet arrived today! I wanted to post that the dado/groove in the MiterSet fits the Shopsmith miter bar PERFECTLY! I had to loosen the tapered screw a bit, but after that, it slipped in with absolutely no play.

Didn't get a chance to try it or the segment unit out yet, but will in a couple of weeks. I did check to see if my gauge is set at 0 degrees! It was perfect!

I like the tapered pins included with the set. They fit super firmly!

Glad to hear you recieved your MiterSet in good shape. We changed over to tapered pins shortly after we started production. It was a pain to get a no-wobble fit with straight pins. The trouble shooting section of my brain found the solution sometime during the night, and we immediately switched to a tapered pin. By the way the pins are a #5 by 1 inch standard industrial tapered pin.

Mine came 1/16. As soon as my PPP (present pressing project) is finished, I'll give it a test drive.

In one of the posts it was mentioned that this idea was birthed by need to set a RAS at 45 degrees. Do you sell a RAS tool?

What I first developed was a modified radial arm saw with a rotating table, nearly 30 years ago. To explain, it actually rotated with the use of a 90degree gear reduction box (similar to a machine shop’s dividing head.) This idea was dropped due to expense in manufacture and complication of use. I was in no position at the time, being the father of four and trying to get my own machine shop in order, to financially pursue such a venture.

To this date I have not come up with anything that works with the modern RAS, and am not working on it either. Sorry that you might have gotten that impression

I must tell everyone that after lookiing at this new tool on Saturday I decided to order both of the SS units. After ordering I was away from my computer until today. Upon opening my email I not only had a nice note that my order was received and it will be shipped, but it started out explaining to me that my wife and the wife of the inventor had actually gone to high school together. She said some very nice things about my wife and I actually had to get away from my computer for awhile. I remember Dick Patee's wife name as being a friend of my wife. When I go home this evening I will get out my wifes year book and look her up.
I lost my wife to cancer 5.5 years ago.
It was very thoughtful for Sandi to convey her thoughts to me about my wife I am very thankful to her for doing that.

I received my MiterSet today. Excellent response to an order placed on the weekend.

I must wait, however, to give a report. The first couple setups that I did indicate that my miter gauges were off at the 90 and 45 degree positions. The miter gauges were both set using the Wixey and were recently used successfully to do some extensive mitering.

I've got to decide what constitutes a valid test and what should be used to evaluate the MiterSet settings.

One thing I must say, I have never cut any miter slots that were any better than the one in the MiterSet. It is the sort of fit (to the miter bar) that we all dream about having on our table saw miter slots. No slop at all. It is almost too tight but a little wax and some use will fix that I am sure.

Hi Dusty,

When I get ready to test mine, I'm going to cut miters at each setting (on the standard model) and fit them together to make rectangles, pentagons octagons etc. That would be the real life test, IMO.
