OK 1) original plug and wires connections?

2) NEW PLUG AND WIRES CONNECTION.

I am guessing that the new connections are incorrect.


??? why on earth are you using any 4 wire plug? You plugging into a dryer receptacle?

I am also guessing the power cord only has 3 wires.

Just the plug at the end of the power cord

Yes only 3 wires

Appears to be original wiring from SS motor, white, black and green. The receptacle in my shop also is a 3 wire white, black and green. The 4 prong plug was use because that’s what I had lying around but only has the 3 wires (two hots and a ground).

If your shop has 3 wires why is it wired ti a 4 prong receptacle?

IIUC it had a 4 prong plug when he got it.

We need more specific descriptions than the number of wires/prongs etc.

I assume the power cord which has 3 wires 1 for ground and 2 for the 240v.

The receptacle having white/black/green is suspicious if the house is wired to code. That indicates a 120v receptacle which has two parallel blade and the round/u shaped ground.

A 240v receptacle will have opposing blades and the round.u shaped ground.

There are other possibilities if the wiring is for 20A circuits rather than 15A.


If your receptacle ios the first type(115v) than the motor is starved for voltage.


So what do you have???

Guaranteed the receptacle is 100% 240v at the wall plug.

Used a 4 prong plug because I had it laying around
