Can you elaborate on how the extra extension table and bracket comes into play. It sounds interesting but I can’t quite visualize it.

I wish I had read this a bit sooner since I just had the 10E out and could have taken a picture. Anyway having a Tailstock and Extension Table on each end of the tool gives about 5 feet of support between those two Extension Tables which can be useful when crosscutting cutting longer stock giving support on both sides of the blade. It is not a common use but just something I have if needed. Having a Mark 7 and a Mark V 520 it is not very often I use the Model 10ER for sawing and have actually not used the Model 10E other than testing it out after being restored.

Ok, now I understand and that is a great idea and adds versatility which is what the Shopsmith is all about. The modification I’m doing will allow me to store the main table on that end while I’m using the lathe. I might be able to work out something similar.

Speed control read out top and bottom end, not sure where it should be but I’ll figure it out. Gotta say it works quietly and smoothly. I was a pleasantly surprised.

Done for now, going into learning mode, never used a wood lathe before. I have some very old spruce to try.

Very sweet looking restoration! I really like your idea of extending the bench top to hold your lathe tools. Looks like it will work well.

There are lots of good books and endless hours of YouTube videos on the subject of turning and all the various types of turnings. It can get overwhelming. Being of the pre-computer generation, I learned a lot from some of the older 1950's era books. But a few years back I found this one:

"Woodturning-A Foundation Course" by Keith Rowley, which I highly recommend for a solid grounding in the fundamentals, as well as inspiration for more advanced work. I refer to it often...its really a good resource.
