For me, I have found no need for the extra carriage, not yet anyway. I always use my
Delta 8-inch grinder for sharpening my lathe chisels due to all the different angles I grind on them, and the Shopsmith sharpening guide is a bit limited, especially when sharpening gouges with a fingernail/side grind on them.

I haven't found the need to mount my sanding disk on the left side of the headstock.
Actually a 'table/carriage' is NOT needed to disc sand on left end of headstock. An extension table(the ones with vertical tubes) can be used instead(narrow perhaps, but useful). This 'trick' can be used with a Power station also. No need on Crafter's station since it HAS a table!

If you read my previous post, you will see that my concern was not for sanding on the left side of the headstock, but for being able to use the Special Purpose Tools with a carriage mounted on the left side of the headstock. The power coupler wouldn't reach.

But as someone pointed out, you can make a power coupler extension so you can. That is what I was corrected on.

On a different subject, I found that if you cut the shaper blade holder off the SS sharpening jig, you can mount it on the left side of the headstock with really no other modification, except for moving the sharpener further up the ext. table so when you are sharpening the chisels they will touch the downward turning portion of the sanding disk, and you stand on the backside of your Shopsmith while using it.

If you read the first post you will notice this thread started with a disc sander on the left of the headstock to be THE subject. I am happy you do not have a need to do so.

No One was taking a shot at any of your posts. Therefore there is no need to 'defend' them. If you did NOT mean to come across that way(defensive), OR I perceived it incorrectly, well then I AM sorry!

Feel free to 'correct' ME ALWAYS. That is how I learn.:)

What prompted this post was your last post. I think the first two paragraphs repeat what has already been said, hence the defensive perception by me.

New subject is a good alternative method.
