When you say they are linked in - are you saying that he has them stored on another computer and made them available via a URL in his originating post.reible wrote:Hi,
The pictures are not stored on this system but are linked in so they don't have to be restricted as to size here.

That is what he(MIKE) has told me by way of an e-mail.dusty wrote:When you say they are linked in - are you saying that he has them stored on another computer and made them available via a URL in his originating post.

Don't talk about me like I'm not even here!!!dusty wrote:When you say they are linked in - are you saying that he has them stored on another computer and made them available via a URL in his originating post.
Heh, just joking. Sorry about the super large image size. I've been spoiled with large monitors and high bandwidth internet and don't think about such things sometimes.
Yes, the images are hosted at PhotoBucket.com. I created links to those images instead of actually attaching/uploading them here or whatever is normally done. You do that by typing in (or copying and pasting in) the http path to the image and surrounding it with the img tag. Take a link to an image like this:
Code: Select all
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/Heathicus/Woodworking/IMG_5618.jpg
Code: Select all
[img]
Code: Select all
[/img]
I'll go back and reduce the size of the images, but leave links to the 1024x768 versions for anyone who wants to see them that big.
But the important part of this thread is:
Potatoes in water: FAILED
Alka-Seltzer: FAILED
Evapo-Rust: SUCCESS!!
The "MickyD Lathe System(TM)": SUCCESS!!
THANK YOU MickyD for that lathe idea!!

And just wait until you try the electolysis.... I can tell that someday, you will. Believe it or not, you can make a mini version using a potato as the voltage source.....and NO, I refuse to give any more details.

One day I'm going to try the electrolysis. And I remember science projects as a kid using a potato as an energy source... I might just have to do some more research!mickyd wrote:And just wait until you try the electolysis.... I can tell that someday, you will. I am sorry about that, heathicus. I should not have spoken of you in the third person like that. I was just too lazy to go back and find out who had posted the article that peaked my interest.
Thank you for your response. I think I now understand but I do have one question for anyone on the forum who can answer it.
Must the URRL refer to a storage location on a "server" or can it simply be the path to a memory location of a second computer on a LAN.
Example: If I reactivate my local network, can images stored on the other computer be referenced by a URRL.

Oh, no offense was taken. I was just being silly.dusty wrote:I am sorry about that, heathicus. I should not have spoken of you in the third person like that. I was just too lazy to go back and find out who had posted the article that peaked my interest.

I think I understand your question correctly. It might work for YOU if the second computer is on YOUR LAN, but chances are the rest of the world can't get to that other computer on your LAN (unless you have it set up as a web server with a public IP address) so it will result in a broken image for the rest of us. While you could set up your other computer as a web server and arrange a public IP address with your internet provider and secure it in a DMZ with your home network router, it's a lot easier to just open a free account at PhotoBucket and upload your photos there.dusty wrote:Thank you for your response. As is often the case I'm entering this thread way late. However, I have a question. Everyone is talking about the pictures being 1024 x 768. When I check the properties on my system the pictures show as 640pix by 480pix.
Can anyone explain why I'm not seeing what you folks see? I right click on the picture and then click "Properties" to see the image size.
Of course if the answer is heathicus has already gone back and changed the image size - - - just forget I asked! Perhaps engaging brain before mouth (or typing fingers) is an appropriate rule to follow here.

Yeah, I went back and changed them. There are now links to the 1024x768 versions under each picture.
