Spar varnish is really tough with several coats. You can sand it and put a final coat of something else over it for appearance.

I added a couple of coats of finish to the edge banding to finish off the carcass. I installed the handle on the appliance lift shelf before installing the banding. I got to looking at the shelf space around the mixer and decided to add some dowels for the beaters, dough hooks and whisks to sit on so that they are with the mixer. I am not sure where he got all of them but I found quite a few more than I expected. I think I have figured out an arrangement where they all fit and are not in the way of the lift mechanism although you may have to move one to get to one of the others. I placed the floating shelves in the cabinet and fastened down the butcher block countertop. Now I need to get the material to make the drawers.

Shelves in place and mixer lowered.

Awesome work.

I am finally able to get back to this project. The mini-split was installed in the garage and I got a filter box made for it and installed. It makes working on projects so much nicer than in the heat. I really need to get this finished as the fruit is getting ripe and I want the counter space to work on them. I got the drawers made and fitted on the slides. Next up will be the drawer fronts. I still have half the board that I cut the edge banding from so will use that for the drawer fronts. After I get the drawer fronts on I want to move it to it’s final position so I can use it.
Eventually I will make an upper tray for each drawer.

I have been thinking a lot about a mini-split for the garage this summer! It's been seriously hot, and this is normally my favorite room. Did you do any insulating? Around here, garages have little if any insulation.

Your project is looking great!

My garage was fully insulated when I bought my house so I did not need to do any. If you do get one be aware the filters on a mini split do not work well for saw dust. I built a box that fits around the wall unit that uses 2 1x14x25 and 2 1x12x12 filters to help keep the mini split clean. There are several videos on YouTube about a filter box for a mini split in a wood shop.

Yeah, that's a problem to be aware of. My upstairs mini-split filters were clogged up just from the dust created when I cut out a floor opening for a stairway into the basement. The filter screens can we washed clean, but they do clog up very quickly.

I got the drawer fronts cut and fitted. Now to take them off, round over the edges and finish them.
