Inexpensive restoration project
Moderator: admin
I don't see a problem with Ken's post either. Seems to me that if someone keeps that Shopsmith alive rather than letting it get sold for scrap then it will probably benefit Shopsmith. A machine restore requires parts, accessories, manuals etc. Some of these items may have to be bought from Shopsmith. A picture of the restored machine may encourage someone new to buy a Shopsmith.

Anyway, I agree. I do not see this as a violation of the user's agreement at all. Where is the commercial purpose that Ken has.
However, I am not the web cop. I think JPG has filled that position.

Gosh, I didn't know that Shopsmith was still selling 10 E's and ER's. I always thought that offering something to sell in direct competition with Shopsmith was, understandably, a no-no. But, I have been wrong before. What page in the catalogue lists the 10's?

While not directly supported, there are many parts and accessories that are made for the Mark Vs which still fit the 10 models. In fact, if you check your catalog, you'll see a legend (usually on the last few pages) denoting which accessories fit which machines, and the "ER10," as it is called there, is clearly listed. To me that says there isn't just one page which supports the 10s, but indirectly, every page. The company is still supporting machines it didn't even manufacture, simply because they are in the "family tree" so to speak. How's that for service?!

Ihave not been a member here for very long but I do not see a problem in informing people of good deals on other sites. In fact I see it as a way to make sure these machines get into the hands of some one that knows how to take care of it and restore it to it former or to even better condition than it has ever been in in some cases.
I really see no harm in it at all.

It would appear, therefore, that it is to Shopsmith's benefit to have "ER10's" purchased, restored and put back into service.kartoffelkopf wrote:While not directly supported, there are many parts and accessories that are made for the Mark Vs which still fit the 10 models. Fuzzy is in the eyes of the beholder.curiousgeorge wrote:This is sort of fuzzy logic, isn't it? If you are going to chastise Ken for posting a Craigslist ShopSmith item, then I don't think you need to be oohing and aahing over the second hand machines that have been purchased and rebuilt. Or, telling someone to look on Ebay or Craigslist for parts to a secondhand machine. Me thinks you are being a little bit, shall we say, over zealous with your protectiveness to SS and being just a tad "cliquish".
This is just MHO.
Yes, it ain't my place to speak for admin. Must be some fallout from Tim!:D
I do not know about Ohh and Ahh, but I do respect the effort that went into rebuilding them.
There IS a difference between RECOMMENDING a person to LOOK to E-bay, or wherever after they have requested help for a part NO LONGER available from SS and ARBITRARILY stating the availability of one.
Happy Easter!:)

There are two ends of a pendulum swinging to this conversation: Selling on this site or knot selling on this site.
There are various equations that create a lot of "gray" area concerning these two extremes that have most of us somewhere in the middle. Each of us probably has an opinion and a "location" in that swing of the pendulum that we feel should be acceptable. NONE of us should act on those opinions. We should all respect the wishes of the forum sponser. As Shopsmith Inc., is the sponser, and they have repeatedly informed us that this is knot a site to discuss the selling of any item knot being sold by ShopSmith, I think they have been very lenient to many members. It is their choice where to set the limits and knot ours. Leniency is O.K. Failure to comply with a direct request to cease wood knot be. Just my 2 cents worth.
