Thom, let me know your length requirements. I have decided to extend my sanding shorty to a sanding regular length machine. I want extra length to mount a 510 carriage and table so I'll have 4 approximately 40" tubes left when I'm done. If you're interested let me know. They are not the greatest looking tubes but they can be cleaned up.

Follow up note: The way tubes I have on my shorty are 1-1/2" EMT conduit. The bench tubes are old Shopsmith tubes. I hadn't thought about that for a long time. My original planned was to use even shorter tubes so I was waiting to find out that length before cutting Shopsmith tubes down. Now I'm going to extend to full length.

I would be inclined to use the 1 1/2" EMT for BENCH tubes. They are always under tension.

I think they're fine for way tubes on a shorty, but for full length would prefer real way tubes. The EMT might work well enough as full length way tubes, don't really know. I used EMT on the shorty so I didn't cut real Shopsmith tubes before settling on the length.

I encountered an individual who used EMT for a model 10. He was satisfied with it.
