I wondered about this after I asked the 510 or 520 question. I have never seen a factory Model 500 50th Anniversary. Do you know when SS discontinued the 500? I have a manual or two from the early 2000's time frame and they show 505/510 and 520 only, but that's not conclusive.

Also starting a rebuild as well. Grandfather's 10E with a homemade base (actually made by great grandfather the original purchaser who used it for one project and gave to my grandfather). Going for more of a functional rebuild than a collector's specimen. Will post photos as I get closer to starting on it.

The Mark V 510 was discontinued and no longer listed in online catalog in November 2019. That also included the 505 although I believe they stopped selling new Mark V 505 models prior to that. I don't know how much before that the Mark V 500 was discontinued. In both cases of the 500 and 510/505 being discontinued replacement parts for those Table/Fence Systems were no longer being made either. The same is true for all discontinued Shopsmith tools and accessories. Once new OEM replacement parts from Shopsmith are gone they would have to be found on the used market.

As for manuals the only things that changed in the later Mark V 500 was the "C" Headstock for all models at the time and the wider Extension Table plus the Upgraded Fence. For a while they had the combined Manual's for different models. I have one for the 500 and 510 combined and have seen others. You can still buy a Mark V 500 manual from Shopsmith.

What a great family heirloom to have. I'm sure your great grandfather would be proud to know you have his Shopsmith and want to restore it to the condition it was when he used it.

Below is one of the Model 10E Shopsmith's I have restored. It is on a wood bench I made using the plans provided with new Model 10's. The Wood Extension Table is a replica I made to replace the original one which was pretty beat up. The rest are the original parts for these first Shopsmith Model 10E tools made in 1947.

Yes, there was/is a 50th Anniversary Mark V 520. I have one made in November 2001.

The 50th Anniversary edition Mark V began, if I remember correctly, in 2001 and continued for several years. I also have a 2006 50th Anniversary Mark V 505 like the one shown below although mine has been upgraded. All Mark Vs be it a 500, 505, 510 or 520 made during that time period have the 50th Anniversary plate. The Mark V 500, 505, 510 and 520 all have the same Headstock. It is the Table/Fence System it has that makes the difference between the models. The Mark V shown above in GetterDone's post is either a 505 or 510 depending on if it has the Floating Tables, Connector Tubes and Legs for the 510 or for the 505 does not.

I will try to get pictures of the tubes that came with it.

They were taped up and still have Yellow labels on them.

I think only 2 of the tubes were ever put into use.

Two of them have the Rubber (Light Gray) feet on them that look brand new.

I have got a little progress made.

The 1981 Mark V is going to be my Learning tool.

I have it disassembled and starting to study my parts replacement options.

The motor was the main Hurdle.

It was the switch in the back that was the issue.
The one under the brown cover.

The sawdust was caked in the teeth and the spring to
the point it would not have full travel.

I plan to buy a Top shaft coupler from SS.

I have been researching for 4 other different items on the Headstock rebuild on my 1981 Mark V.

4 Questions / Here I Go

1st is the belts.
I found 504170 and 504193-16 on Amazon.
Question is - Is there a Better source?
Where do you get yours?

2nd is the bearings
I have read thru the bearing thread in the intro thread and there is lots of good info.
Do I go back with Shielded bearings or sealed bearings?

I need 1 Quill bearing 6202-Z and 2 6205-Z shaft bearings.
What do you use and where is a good place to get them?

3rd is the Speed control handle.

I can get a new one for SS for $41.95 today.
I would like to get one that was suggested above that has the steel gear (Ebay seller)

Being a Machinist I would like to find out where a source is for that Gear rod Stock he is using and fix it myself.

4th is the Motor Speed Control Sheave

Convince me I will be money ahead to buy the Motor Speed Control Sheave w/Hardware from SS,
Instead of trying to fix mine.

It has a burr in one of the V grooves and I would want to replace the Button bearing also.
