Cool stuff - I like the way the steel is hidden from view to keep the see-through look of the table.

When I saw your first post, I was concerned about strength. But the steel plate should take care of that. I also worried about the cookies cracking radially as the humidity changes. But with the steel plate and all those screws, everything should stay put, even if hairline cracks do appear in the cookies.

I am not too worried about cracks. There was movement during the build in that the cookies became convex on one side and concave on the other. Because my shop is so small the arrangement of cookies took place inside the house (my wife is a saint!). After the first cookie was flattened and left in the shop for a week this swelling became evident and was reversed after back in the lower humidity of the house. After that all cookies were flattened and sanded and then brought back inside to be waxed to slow movement (the wife's halo grew brighter as this project progressed!). The glass top has not shown any instability by wood movement.

The Shopsmith is the trusty tool, the Owner is the inspiration !

Great example of what can be done using a Shopsmith that is hard to duplicate with other tools.

Excellent idea. Horizontal boring is often given short shrift as a Shopsmith feature. If you've ever tried to edge drill on a vertical drill press you can appreciate the value of horizontal boring and this is an incredibly good example with irregularly shaped pieces of wood.
