The Freud 8" Dial-a-width Dado is not the same style as the older wobble dado blades. Only the outside blades move when dialed in or out. I don't remember how much they move but they do cut very nice. I passed on buying one when I ask my blade sharpening guy about them. He is the best around and said they were difficult to resharpen and get right. They will certainly work on the SS with a 5/8 inch arbor.

Chuck, those look every bit as good as the dados I get with my Tenryu set. I replaced an Excalibur wobbler with the Tenryu. My experience with the wobbler was not nearly as positive as yours. Might have been the brand, just not a well made unit, maybe. Bottoms were not flat, tore the edges, and, even though I marked the outside tooth, I was never able to properly align a cut.

It appears beauty IS in the eye of the BEHOLDER! I am assuming that it was NOT your purpose to display a wobble blade result(S) as 'GOOD". I see the same thing as I dislike. Round bottoms. They are more obvious in the need to fill the box joints in your last pix.

This is not entirely fair. The edge of the insert is not flat either! Put a square piece of paper on your screen, align the lower left corner with the insert corner, and the lower edge with the lower edge of the insert. There is a gap between the paper(square edge) and the rabbet groove bottom. The bottom of the rabbet is deeper at the top than it is at the bottom in the pix. This is the inconsistant depth I also dislike. I have attempted to correct this, but this IS as good as it gets! Do NOT like it! Haven't used it lately. I take multiple passes with a regular blade b4 I would use it!:(

I didn't realize dado's are sooo expensive.. I pulled the aforementioned 'dial-a-dado' up on amazon.. It aint like buying your average saw blade.. Last blade I bought was a fine tooth mitre saw blade for about $75.. I was thinking about getting one but might have to save some $$ and get one down the line when funding is not so tight..

Actually, we are playing a game of he says/ he says! It will get us nowhere, but yes those are flat bottoms. Rounded? Sloped? NO! So here are a couple of photos showing the application of the dados and grooves shown above. They fit pretty darned good, and tight.

The first two photos show fitting plywood. These pix weren't meant to illustrate joinery. You'll have to enlarge them. I can take a close up if you'd like. The third one shows a drawer joint. All joints were made with my wobble.

I bought it from Shopsmith - I think it is a Magna, but there is no brand name on it. Here's a link to what the blade looks like. Carbide teeth and a pretty aggressive cut angle. http://www.amazon.com/Vermont-American- ... 83&sr=8-17

Obviously, not all dadoes are the same.

I too have a Shopsmith adjustable dado blade that I use and like. It doesn't do as good a job as Charlese' but that might not be due to the blade. Charlese is obviously a better craftsman and some of this performance that we are discussing (criticizing) is not due to the equipment.
