Rattle has been isolated to the floating sheave, most likely due to excessive wear (it is 40+ years old). I will replace it as soon as i get a good new one.

Definitive answer is: is the belt perpendicular to the shaft?

Sheave key groove/key wear will allow rotational play which can result in rattle due to the vanes colliding. Not a problem other than noise and accelerated further wear(and noise).

IIWM, I would get both halves of the pulley.(fan sheave and floating sheave)

Poly V belt appears to be perpendicular to the shaft.
