The manual is available from ShopSmith and is currently selling for about $24.

so don't let yourself be tricked into paying more.

I would also recommend the book
Power Tool Woodworking For Everyone
and the ShopSmith self study course as these will provide a tone of information and experience for new (and not so new:p ) users.

In my opinion the sawdust sessions that beeg refereed to are better for maintenance than the manual anyway.

I went to HD website for the paste wax. It wasn't listed. Where is a good place to get it (besides SS)? Will any brand of paste wax work (i.e. carnauba, turtle, etc.)?

The Ace Hardware, Lowes and Home Depot stores here in Tucson all carry Johnson's original formula paste wax. I suspect this would be the case most every where. I don't recommend using anything else other than Johnson's.

Check the cleaning aisle at HD or Lowe's or even the grocery store. Johnson's is best. Minwax and Trewax also make a version that works well. Just make sure it has no silicon or hardeners.

Johnson's Original Paste Wax UPC 46500 00202 ! Accept NO substitutes!(trewax excepted). The OLD TIMEY stuff is what works! Hence 'Original formula' is to be sought out. The last time I bought a can was either at Lowe's or Home Depot, but I think it WAS Home Depot. Do NOT get the kind that is NOT 'original formula' in the paint department that is intended for finished wood waxing. Good Luck!

BTW it is in a yellow can with a red stripe.

At the risk of beating a dead horse: you can find Johnson's Original Paste Wax at nearly all grocery stores (at least here in TX). Look in the cleaning products aisle. Even our small local grocery has several cans of it all the time. (We have NO major chain grocery stores although we are supposed to get one this winter - probably in Dec. or Jan. next year).

Could be interesting to see if the 'major chain grocery store' will carry it!;) KROGER here does NOT!
