Before attempting to drive the pin 'through' verify the hole(in the casting) does indeed go 'all the way through'.
When did they quit using the roll pin? The pivot base on my dedicated drill press has the roll pin and the shaft is 3/4". The base came from my original MK V 510 when I converted it to double tilt and Power Pro. The machine was bought new in 1994.

I built a shorty from parts on eBay. That pivot base does not have a roll pin. It has C clips on each end of the shaft on the inside of the pivot arm. Also the shaft is only 1/2".
Is this the hole that is being discussed here?

If it is, I would sure appreciate a photo of the setup that uses NO ROLL PIN to secure the shaft.
Here you go. Again the shaft is 1/2" not 3/4".

Thank you, John for the images (to make me a believer). I believe you said your machine is a 93/94 and mine is a couple years newer. So sometime in the mid to late nineties???

The pivot base on my dedicated drill press is from my original MK V that I bought new in 1994. I upgraded that machine to a double tilt Power Pro. That is the one that has the roll pin.

The shorty has the pivot base without the roll pin. That base was obtained from eBay and I have no ides the year it was made. My guess that it is after 1994 sometime but when?

Anyone with a known original machine made after at least 1994 could check and maybe we can determine when the change was made.

And I broke the bottom base part 518379 while driving the hinge pin out. Sent the wife to eBay to get a replacement. Love me a $100 Sunday evening oops. $39.99 for the part and $30 to ship. I guess it was still $30 cheaper than SS and $300 cheaper than a double tilt upgrade.
