Congratulations on a great job! It is a beautiful piece.

Though I have dreamed of owning a "real" workbench, as others have said, I would be afraid to work on it as I have a habit of spilling paint, missing with a hammer, etc.

Enjoy your workbench!

That is one fine work of craftsmanship. Like others have already said, I would want to just admire it. A "Blue Ribbon" for sure.

Thanks for all of the kind comments guys. This workbench has been a dream of mine for the past few of years. Every time I priced it out, it always seemed to cost more than a new piece of power equipment.

For the last year or so, I have gotten more into hand tools like planes, chisels, and dovetail saws. When using these tools I made do by clamping my workpiece to a work table using hand screws or whatever and making do. Finding the wood cheap was the final straw that got me off my a** and actually doing something.

I actually completed the bench about a week ago and have used it on a daily basis since. What a difference. The ability to just go to the bench and clamp a workpiece without clearing off space and rounding up clamps is astounding. This bench WILL get used and I'm sure will show the battle scars over time. I could say the same thing about my own body when I look at the various scars I've accumulated over my lifetime. I hope this bench ages as memorably as I have.

Diana was walking behind me as I was scrolling through the pictures. I commented that one of the guys built a new workbench. Her comment was "WOW... Who would want to mess that up". :)

If I recall correctly my old bench top is all the same color... I haven't seen it in some time. :D

What a great deal on the wood and to turn it into that. You should be proud. I agree give it a wack with a hammer so you can feel good. When I built my bench nothing like yours it was nice lookinh, now it have dinges all over it, glue stains and some big scratches. I look forward to seeing what you end up building on your bench. Wonderful job congratulations.

That sure is a nice looking workbench, excuse me I had to wipe the drool off my chin. The colours just add to the attraction.

All of the dog holes are 3/4". I debated with myself if I wanted square holes or round ones. The round ones won out for a couple of reasons. The first is that I thought they would be easier to make and the second is the huge variety of accessories that work with the round hoes.
