How do I get the guide lines? I used the tape measure, but don't have the lines.

How do you get the measurements to go away when you change scenes? The scene will change, but the measurements are still there.

I'm sure Tom can explain it better than I, but you have to unclick the text box for that scene before creating another scene. I still have to play around with that myself but it is easier using Toms template.

Are you clicking on the edge and then dragging the tape measure in the direction of your guide. After you start dragging you should be able to release the mouse and type in the measurement and the line will snap to it. Example if you want a line at 3/4" type .750. Try that and report back.

Bob, guide lines should appear when clicking on an axis or the edge of a part and dragging away from the location. The only caviat is, don't click on a point (corner of an object, or midpoint of a line). If you still have problem, shoot me a PM and we'll work something out...

If you are using the template I offered, it should be automatic. Basically, I have 2 layers utilized for each scene. There is a layer for the geometry, and a second layer for the dimensions/callouts. The geometry layer is shared with multiple scenes, but the layer for the callouts is only used in the one scene for the details of that part. If you are using the template I provided make sure that the callouts are assigned to the correct layer (select the text and check the Item Info window).

Tom and Mark,

I guess I'm over my head with the layer thing. I can't seem to get them to do anything after I create them. Nothing seems to happen when I turn on the radio button for one layer or another. If I make a layer for the end and then make another layer for the crossbrace and try to get them to come on or disappear using the radio button, nothing happens. I know it's something I'm doing wrong, but I sure don't see it.

I can see Sketchup beig a great program.......IF...... one knows what one's doing...

I'm currently working on Tutorial 2. I have some question.

1. When in the "A" Scene Tab, (this is using your template) my Red axis is going in the Z direction, whereas in your screen shot, it is the Blue axis going in the Z direction.

2. When refreshing the scene, I get a popup box asking me several questions. I don't remember the exact questions, but I believe I chose the Save the current style. Could you explain that some for us?

3. My system is an AMD dual core 3800 with Vista. My graphics card is the XFX 7600 GTX. I've noticed that when moving or rotating the model, some or parts of it disappear. Is my graphics card not up to snuff for sketchup, or are there some tweaks I need to do?

And lastly, thanks so much for these tutorials. I really enjoy these and hopefully there will be more.

I have been out of pocket (with DSL Modem Problems) just long enough to fall way behind.
