Ya...I second JPG's recommendation. That is a guaranteed method to give you something to try the electrolysis on. While it's out there, you might as well sprinkle some table salt on it daily to expedite the process .

Some carbon dioxide will help also!:p

I played around with the electrolysis method on some old wrench's that were my dads that he used on the farm. They came out pretty clean except for the pitting.

Pitting is where the iron used to be. Electrolysis cannot bring it back. It only migrates the iron oxide(rust) to the scum which forms. The sacrifical iron goes there also. Little or no iron goes to the work piece. A LITTLE black oxide will remain on the workpiece.

BTW Washing soda IS much cheaper than Evaporust. Evaporust works great INSIDE the tubes.

I plan on doing electrolysis one of these days when my shop is finished. I had my home made over. Gave my wife a master bedroom suite & a wood shop for myself. Fair exchange? Anyhow, the project is almost done. Ripped out the 50 year old duct work & replaced it with the proper sized supply trunks & a geothermal system. Applied for a NJ solar power rebate & got it. I'm producing more power than we use for the past 3 weeks. Can't wait to see my next electric bill. In the mean time, I'm keeping up with outfitting my shop with Shopsmith stuff. Bought two 10ERs in the past 2 weeks. One even had a speed changer. I paid only $102 for it. The other was in Florida & looked like it was restored. No one bid on it, so I got it for the starting price on Ebay. So now I have two 10ERs in Florida I have to bring back to Jersey. The one I got in Long Island is a little rusty. So I was gonna do the potato method & then stumbled on the concentrated Evapo Rust deal. I have too much going on to try electrolysis, but after today, my shop will have a utility sink. I might as well put a urinal in & then I'll never go back in the house.... My shop has all the power it needs. I ran a 100 amp subpanel to it. No more popping breakers when I'm making saw dust & turn on a shop vac. Actually, I will be using a DC3300 from now on. Picked it up yesterday. Life is good.

These tools were left on the tractor. We did not have cabs on the old A, and B John Deere.

Received my EvapoRust concentrate. They send it in a 5 gallon plastic container along with mixing instructions. I'd be surprised if there was any more than 2 quarts of concentrate on the container.

Oh, I found another place where they sell it for $65 and $4.95 shipping. You have to Google to find it.
