This response to the original post by Cincinnati has indeed gotten out of hand. I certainly agreee with Ron that the post was serious and well intended to possibly help some individuals that had suffered a loss. Making remarks of this type in my opinion does not speak well of the character of the members of this forum. I would think that the type of person who participates here should hold themselves at a little higher level than making jokes about this type of subject matter. I happen to also know for a fact through private conversations with members of this forum that they do not participate very often because some members put them down for anything they say. Think about it guys, if someone stole your arsnal of tools do you think you would appreciate it if a mob of people poked fun at your loss.

I don't think anyone was making fun of the loss. They were just expressing possible punishment for those scum bags that stole tools.

1) NOBODY is/was poking fun at the loss suffered by the 'victims'.

2) This 'attitude' of I am appalled/offended/etc. is unwarranted.

3) If 'correcting ' someone's mis-conceptions/error/goof/etc. is 'putting them down' then they have a different understanding of what being put down is than I have.

4) To me the worst thing a person can do is to let someone CONTINUE with a mis-conception that can easily be corrected by telling them 'how it is'.

5) Hanging/twisting/etc. is/was in poor taste and taken too far, but no actual harm was done. Different 'humor' for different folks.

6) All this extraneous conversation DOES increase the possibility (though remote) that one of us will observe one of these items and take action to help 'catch the thieves'. It is unlikely they are anywhere close to Ohio now!

7) One thing that becoming an old timer gives one is the accumulation of sufficient experience with 'issues' that have come and gone and no longer seem important. The poor taste mentioned above is one which is not worth getting riled up over!

JPG: If is is not worth getting riled up over, why are YOU so riled up. That was quite a dissertation for someone not riled up. I've always noticed that the guilty canine barks the loudest.

As I said in that post you ARE referring to, the worst thing one can do is to let someone continue in their mis-understanding. I do not need to be riled up to create a lengthy post, only hope for being successful. I DO try to remain logical and coherent and not try to point fingers. What dog barks loudest is totally irrelevant(as well as being terribly inaccurate). While we are discussing trite cliches, consider the one about the horse that is not thirsty!

Consider this to NOT be a put down, but a glimmer of light from another viewpoint.

Like it or knot, I was knot funnin': Those thieves should be hung. IMHO, part of the reason we have so much crime is the way that it is (knot) punished.

"Hanging" was not the objectionable part. The later elaborations were somewhat 'objectionable'.

To me, a thief is one of the lowest forms of life on this planet. They are nothing but a leech to society. So, therefore, any and all kinds of punishment are suitable for thievery. I was not making light in any way, shape or form. I was deadly serious.

Seriousness quite 'on target'. Not all folks are able to 'see' the need! I DID make the mistake of referring to it as 'fun'. Seemed the context of MY post needed a shift away from 'serious'.

Perhaps 'in days gone past' amputation of the hand of a thief WAS appropriate! At least it contained a bit of prevention of FUTURE repeat offense. Not sure WHAT YOUR recommendation would prevent!:eek:
