Please describe the setscrews as Dusty did (size/thread/length/tip). I believe we got an answer re hex set screws, but not for all the other screws.

The tapered set screws are replacements (or spares if you will), for the miter bar. My kit came with the two that it was supposed to.

The following items are what came in my SS # 515714 (the blue color is the web site description and the black are my comments:Shims (18)6pieces 1/32" thick, 43/64"OD, 23/64"ID and 12 pieces <1/64"(all 12 stacked together equal 3/64" thick), 19/32"OD, 23/64"ID]1/8" tall with tapered threads to fit the miter guage, 5/16"x18"x1/4"(20)with flat tip, 5/16"x18"x3/8" (6)with flat tip, Nylok (5)5/16"x18x3/8" with concave serrated edged tip, Table Insert screws [/color](I got five of these). I also got 1 screw that has a round head, 9/16" long threaded area and the same threads as the table insert screws. This screw was knot listed in the contents.

FYI - The tapered fastener is most likely a "socket head pipe plug" with though hole. Based on your description, it's probably a 3/8"-18 NPT thread (NPT= National Pipe Thread).

Using the online catalog, I have come up with the following list of setscrews used within the various pieces of Shopsmith equipment.

Any entry that is italicized or entered with ?? I have some doubt about.

An item notation of SP means the item is included in the help kit (spare parts)

Nomenclatures do not necessarily agree with the catalog.

If color coded, item is used in more than one place (same color).

The type of point indicated is based on my own machines and is not necessarily what Shopsmith would define. However, I am anal about parts substitution so I believe they are accurate.

I will gladly answer questions regarding this post but I will not defend the data. User is on his/her own.

Excellent documentation! If it's got a few bugs.....doesn't matter. That's what revisions are for. Gotta start somewhere and this is a GREAT start.

I'm doing something similar with the complete fastener set used for the ER10 main unit and accessories.

I don't know where these go. The quantity(5) and the name motor pan sorta implies that they are for the motor pan which does have five screws but mine are just plain olde sheet metal screws which require tinnermans on the headstock.

It has always frustrated me that Shopsmith does not assign a meaningful nomenclature to their part numbers so I decided that I would finish this task which I started many months ago.

The Help Kit description got me started originally. I have a fly tackle box that has been used for set screws for many moons. That box has many more set screws in it than does the Help Kit. I am certain that I purchased it from Shopsmith. The set screws that were in the box originally all had a small red dot of nail polish. It is the consistent existence of this spot that makes me believe they were part of a kit. I did not mark them.

The new set screws that I just purchased are both Help Kit parts. I bought
501364 and 513056. These are marked with a brown sorta paint (not red).
