Thank you all for this information. I really wondered if snipe was due to cheaper equipment or not. I also use the lift the board as it enters and lift it as it exits. I knew if I asked you guys would know. Even so I am still wanting a SS planner someday.

I think that a planer with perfectly adjusted rollers and adequate in feed and out feed support will not produce snipe. I have worked in a cabinet shop where that was witnessed daily. However, the cabinet shop had a technician who did nothing but keep the equipment properly aligned and lubricated and I mean nothing else. The cabinet builders were responsible for keeping the equipment beds clean and free of sawdust, etc. The wantabes kept the floor clean and the scrap lumber cleared away. I don't work there anymore. It was far too structured for my liking. I lost my job in a cut back that occurred two weeks before my cousin and a close friend got hired on.
