These ads remind me, in the days of the Green Movement, that Shopsmith is a leader in my mind.
These old Greenies, you might need to spend $150 or even more on new bearings and belts and wiring, but then you are good as new. You keep about 200 pounds of metal from hitting the trash.
PS I just picked up a 1982 "Gray Mare" on one heck of a horse-trade over the weekend. I can already see it will need every bearing replaced.

there is a gadget on the floor in these pictures that I cannot figure out.
it is between the power coupler box and the tail stock.
can someone tell me what that is please?

Looks like a clamp or something similar. squeezing the handles on the left causes the end to move toward the inside lip.

Thanks buck50bmg for posting the link to this auction. I don't think I would have found it without your link. For some reason, it did not show up on eBay when I searched for "Shopsmith". I was lucky enough to get it, and at a reduced price. I hope to pick it up tomorrow.
BTW -- mickyd's beautiful machines inspired me. I have no hope of reaching his level of restoration, but at least it looks possible to clean up a neglected machine.
