Yes, George, the output end of the motor shaft is turning CW. And as you pointed out (highlighted in blue above), the blade is turning CCW. So far nobody has convinced me otherwise.:o

I started taking my Mark V apart for renovation and managed to nearly get the headstock totally disassembled today. I took a picture of the switch and how it was wired before I took the wires off. I also wrapped some blue tape around it and marked a reminder - "W" for the side where the white wires connected, "B" for the side where the black wires connected, "M" for the end where the motor wires (one white one black) connected, and "P" for wires coming from the plug.

Mike's picture out to take care of you. One of his wires looks green, but I only had white and black. Basically the white wires connect to the two prongs on one of the long sides and the black wires connect to the two prongs on the other long side. The two wires from the motor should be opposite each other and the same for the two wires going to the plug.

You can't reverse the SS motor my reversing wires on the switch but you can short out the switch.

White wires go on one side of the switch and black wires on the other. It's a 2 pole, single throw switch. It's like having a 2 separate on / off switches in one. Each side of the switch is independent. Just don't mix the black and white wires.

Re: CW/CCW It Ain't confusing, IF you determine it consistently. The 'normal'/'common' sense way is to look at the rotating shaft from the 'end'. If the top of the shaft is moving to the right, it is turning ClockWise. If the top is moving to the left, it is turning Counter ClockWise.

Looking at the end of the shaft the saw blade mounts to, it is rotating CCW.

Motors with only two leads for power(ignoring capacitor leads) will run in one direction only. Bi-directional motors have additional leads. They are either connected differently for different rotation direction, or a reversible connector is provided to allow quick direction change(by reversing the connector).

Motors with dual shafts(one out each end) are thus providing one CW shaft and one CCW shaft. To reverse direction, the motor is mounted with the ends reversed.

As far as the saw blade going CW, only the desert shadow knows!

The Mark VII had a reversible motor so as to cause the headstock output shaft to run CW when tilted to the LEFT with the headstock UNDER the table.

The switch has two terminals in the middle of the housing, and two terminals toward one end. The center terminals may point out to the rear or out the sides(mike's switch). Usually the line cord wires(one white and one black) are attached to the center terminals(white on one 'side' and black on the other 'side'. If the motor leads have a white wire, it connects to the 'end' terminal on the same side as the line cord white wire. The remaining motor wire connects to the other 'end' terminal. All GREEN wires should be connected to a metal surface(motor frame, headstock 'chassis'. Different motor models have different color motor wires.

It is about as clear as mud to me now that I know that the saw blades on my Mark V go both directions. The right side goes CCW while at the same time the left side goes CW. Now all that is left to be done is ascertain which side is right and which side is left. Do you do this standing in front of the SS or do you go to the other side.
And which side is the front and which is the back? ;) It's actually taken me a long time to get that right in my head. I had always looked at it as tailstock end was the "front," headrest end was the "back," and then you had left and right respective to that position. After reading the forum for about a year now, and everyone else having a different perspective of front and back, my view is gradually starting to change.

Even on a traditional table saw, clockwise or counterclockwise is a matter of perspective. It depends on which side of the blade you're standing on. I've always preferred to just look at it as the blade cuts against the feed of the wood, not with it. That would be consistent regardless of which side you're standing on.

IMHO the 'Front' is that part where the controls are. The 'Back' is where the quill advance lever/stop is. The 'Right' side is where you mount the tailstock for lathe turning(yah it CAN be mounted on the other end, but mostly by folks not cognisant of where it belongs!). The Left end is where the jointer is mounted(or bandsaw or scroll saw or jig saw).

Just to keep a 'little' confusion, the 'front' output shaft is on the side where the extendable quill is, and the 'rear' output shafts are on the opposite 'side'.;)
