Why is any question asked? Curiosity? The quest for knowledge? To be a PITA? Perhaps if we see how most people stand, or the reasons they stand that way, we may be more tolerant of them and their ways. :)

The 'secret' is to pick the right unique 'word'.

Oh I am so sorry. This thread is about 'being deviant', not 'searching'.:D

I don't enjoy it when a thread gets off topic. It is hard to find an answer sometimes. For instance if the original question was "is a biscuit joiner necessary?". Then the next post is I don't like biscuits I like cupcakes. Then number three is biscuits are good for breakfast but not lunch. And post number four says biscuits are better than dowels. You can see how it took four post just to answer one question. Multilpy this by a couple different side trails then you forget what the original question was...

In response to your comment about searches] You are absolutely correct and I shall work hard to correct that. It just means that I shall have to choose the threads that I participate in more carefully.

Dusty,
With all due respect, you just recently supported a wander off the "air conditioning" subject when the topic fell into a discussion of javelinas born off of your comment about keeping them out of your garage. That was within the topic. But, you then went on to amplify your original comment in a second entry about them nesting in your back yard when others added their comments of wild pigs.

To me this forum is like sitting around a pot bellied stove with your feet up on a small cracker barrel or bucket and passing around knowledge and opinions. When something of interest pops up, others tend to add their experience. For example, a "Good Morning From Mobile" thread spawned several photos from Shipwright of his elegant mobile SPT storage cart. Now that was a great "wander"!

Unfortunately, meandering off topic can make subsequent research difficult, however at least I learned to stay away from javelinas.:D

Edit: Dusty, Tim beat me to my comment. He summed it up. My entry seems like a "ganging up". That was not my intent and if I had seen his post, I would have not entered mine.

Just make sure to not be reluctant to use words to improve upon your silence!:)

I am sure that Dusty was quite aware of his wandering when he spoke of those wild porkers.

Just because he has a correct opinion of the downside of such wandering does not mean he is not as human as the rest(well most anyway) of us.

Just because he is in the role of the preacher, we should not expect him to be perfect himself! Even so he tries to be(as we all should).

J hope this continues as a simple expression of "approach" and does not become a choosing of "sides". When the dust settles we are still all on one side. I like some wandering but understand keeping a flow to a thread. I "try" to always start a new thread for a new topic. I also "try" to avoid hi-jacking a thread that has a general direction working. I'm just not always very good at it. :) Hell, I have trouble enough trying to stay on topic in one message, let alone a whole thread.
What was this thread about? Oh, yeah, staying on topic...
If the search function worked too well everybody would just go search the data base and nobody would ask any questions. We would then all have to talk about the weather.
Obviously we will not "decide" anything here and shouldn't try. Those of us that are wanderers just should maybe try to consider those who dislike wandering and those that are sticklers should try to understand that we are wanderers and beyond all help anyway. :)

Just a footnote for those that have seen the cute little animated movie "Up" I say "SQUIRREL!!!"...
Figure that one out. :D

I truly hope that does knot mean that you will participate less. I earlier said that I will knot argue my point of view, but it seems that I must do so in an effort to keep you from "choos(ing) the threads that (you) participate in more carefully." That is knot my intent. I enjoy the wonderings, including yours. Reading the little personal things like your javelinas makes this forum a pleasant place to be. To stay on topic, while making searches easier, is too dry, if you will.

I prefer to see Threads stay on subject but.... not to the detraction of normal conversation and communications. That is, wandering around a subject is still on topic. Going far afield and staying there begs for a 'new' thread.
