Something else you Mark VII owners might be interested in is a getting a copy of DeCristoforo's book, "Modern Power Tool Woodworking." It's like the Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone book, but for the Mark VII.

I picked up a SS7 yesterday, no manual, and i am completely lost... does everything on the SS5 work on the 7? a little help would be great! thank you,

The quill shaft, the auxiliary shaft, the work table mounting tubes, the spt mounts are dimensionally the same.

Somehow I missed pennview's suggestion 7 months ago that we Mark VII owners check out a copy of DeCristoforo's 1967 book- Modern Power Tool Woodworking, that caters to these splendid models. Just ordered a copy of it from an amazon seller and can't wait to check out the pics and tips. If anyone is familiar with this publication and has any feed back I would love to hear it. Thanks:)

I have been using Shopsmiths less than a year, and have a couple Mark Vs.
I just acquired a Mark VII in excellent condition because I kind of fell in love with the design of the double tilt and profile.
The gentleman cannot find the manual, and I will order from Shopsmith, but I would like to configure the machine now.
I have been reading about the melting etc. and any tips would be appreciated.
Can you attach the speed enhancer or reducer to this model?

It's Called Modern Power Tool Woodworking by R.J. Decristoforo

It is the Mark VII version.

I also rewrote the entire Mark VII manual last year. It is a free PDF download and includes additional material.

Is there any special procedure for lubricating the suspect cam, or is normal maintenance oiling what takes care of that?

Thank you so very much for all of your help!

The bearing on the end of the control sheave gets hot and melts the cam. Therefore it is especially important to insure that it is adequately lubricated. The cam itself requires no lubrication. With the Mark VII more(often) is better!!!

After oiling the control sheave, raise to vertical(drill press) over night. That allows the oil to 'migrate' into the bearing.
