No, I'm afraid this batch won't be walking anywhere. Each one will be permanently mounted to a round base. This week I will be working on the hands, they also move in a socket. So far, it has taken an hour to make one.
Jack, I turned the body, head and helmet as one piece using a stick with the appropriate measurements marked out which I transfer to the blank, a pair of calipers and a drawing to measure diameters. I think it's just basic spindle turning technique, nothing fancy. Actually they aren't all identical when you see them up close.
