Two Main Tables

I usually have a router table attached to the left side of the left extension table. To the right of the extension table is either a floating table or I have the auxillary main table and carriage installed.

All of this added table top gets over used. Yes it works well for sanding space if at the correct height. Having the router table involved sort of works against that approach.

By not using extension tubes between the auxillary main table and whatever I have to the far left - I can adjust table height to support the sanding task.

Going to the drill press mode makes this all seem to be a bit to much extra work. When faced with a lot of crosscutting of longer lumber - fifteen minutes of setup certainly eliminates any complaint about not enough table space. Of course, the outfeed table needs to be added into the whole setup.

The extra miter slots seem like they should be really handy. Strangely, I have not had the opportunity to benefit from their existence. They do align very favorably (+-.004") with the miter slots on the main table.:)

Is there a chance we could get a photo or two of these setups?

Thanks, Bill

Bill,

My avatar is probably the best shot I have of the dual table setup. I'll look through the others and email you.

Are you contemplating this for your shop???

For what the necessary parts can cost on youknowwhere, two tables is a sensible compromise. And, truly, mine will come off in two minutes or less. That occurs when I am going to drive an SPT at the left end position.mt

I have been adapting the Shopsmith 500 Main Table to use as an extension table. I have several that I use on both ends sometimes. See http://www.billstoolz.com for a picture. Thanks.

[quote="mtobey"]I use two main tables with the extra to the left of the Powerhead, of course. The only drawback is that to run an SPT, the extra carriage has to be removed]
I have been using two main tables but I use only one tie bar. Why you feel the second tie bar is necessary?
