P.S. I missed/misread the "plus head" part!!!

I purchased both a 3/4" and 1" 10-32 screw. The new one went in much better than the old one or the metric screw.

I think the screw length must be an issue of vintage. The casting of my jointer has a date of 1-24-80 and has the old style guard. Mine takes 3/4" screws.

Thanks again for everyone's input. They had a tap for less than $4, so I picked it up, but I am glad I did not have to use it. Now I should be able to finish working on the picture frames that I was contracted to build. Luckily my "employer" is patient; mothers are like that.

Methinks a look at who built it will determine how long it is. If it says(Magna Engineering/Yuba/Magna American) it will be 3/4". If it says Shopsmith, Inc. the blade guard tells the tale(I am concluding this from what Loren stated above). Old Guard = 3/4", New guard = 1".
