Moved At Last

Congratulations on your move. Five years ago we moved to Gainesville to be closer to our son and daughter. Boy! It's a lot of work, and getting "reorganized" takes more time than you think.

I have two nephews in Denver. Last year I gave them a 510 with bandsaw and jointer. Now if they need to have something fixed I'll know where to send them.

I am so glad to hear that you have finally been able to make this long wanted move and that it has been done safely. I also envy you for having the task of rebuilding your shop. You now have the opportunity to correct all of those little nagging inefficiencies of the old shop.

I see two things that must be done rather soon. One would be to set up a suitable workbench area. This may be temporary but you need a work bench.

The other is to unpack, set up and align one of the Mark Vs. Once these two tasks are done, you are ready and able to take on the rest of the house.

Oh yah. Locate an outlet for building supplies and tools.

Good luck Jim. Take on these new tasks and all those that I have not thought about in a safe and sane manner. Doing so will allow you to soon be ready to make sawdust in your new location.

Every day the last couple of weeks I have wished for a few minutes to check this forum and catch up on the wisdom you and others offer. Sadly the events of moving prevented that. With the move completed we are realizing just how difficult it is to move from 4,000 square feet to 2,000 square feet. I decided to spend a couple of hours on the shop today. I managed to position my primary storage cabinet and install the shelves. Then discovered all of the items I store within it are buried in the garage. I actually have a huge built in work bench in the garage. The interesting part being the prior owners had two really tall sons. I feel like a midget when trying to use it. I did bring four workbenches from Virginia. Two are buried under box mountain. Two are in the shop and hopefully will in a useable state in a day or two. I wish I had pictures of my shopsmith tools being carried though a large basement window. A couple of neighbors offered an observation I would never get them down there. I have discovered an electrical problem in the shop area. Hopefully I can get an electrician out soon to correct the issue. More later. Jim

I am thrilled to have a few minutes to get back on the forum. I miss the banter and great ideas I learn here. A couple of friends and my son were unloading items from the last Pod Friday, One commented this cabinet will never go down the stairs and the shop is already too full. I asked that the take it down anyhow. Yesterday I unwrapped the moving blanket and shared it with my son. After he realized all of the items it was designed to store and make handy for use he said, wow Dad that is the best use of space and organizational method I have ever seen. Now with that sort of affirmation how can a fellow stay out of his shop for very long?! Jim

Putting everything in its place in that cabinet should free up a lot of room!

Welcome to Colorado Jim. Glad your move went well, and don't let anybody give you to much grief about winters here. I will tell you the worst winter I ever spent anywhere was not in Colorado, but Georgia!! Maybe we can get together some time. Right now, I am getting my last kid graduated from college and don't have time to do much else. He has a job, so I can't complain at all. Just lots of time traveling and getting him moved into a new place.

It is great to be home. I will be more relaxed once we are unpacked. The smaller house is beginning to grow on me. The bride is thrilled. She has wante34d less to care for for years. Jim
