I never did post a picture of how my second rain barrel is set up. Actually it had been very had to see until this past week when we made a few changes so it was easier to get to.

Before:

I like this drum as you can see the water level. Well you can't cause the picture is too small and taken to far away but I can in real life.

I use a lot of plastic barrels but for horse water tubs. I got a batch for free that had held RV antifreeze (safe, is used in water systems and only needs to be flushed out with water). I cut them in half to make two tubs that hold about 25 gallons each. I usually pull the bung plugs out and put some sealer on them and put them back in tight on that end.
Also I have three complete barrels in one arena for barrel riding (clients, not me :) ).
I have one cut off short that we use as an oil drain pan under tractors.
I also use several with one end cut out as trash barrels around the farm so clients keep stuff picked up better.
