Just my two cents worth - I also would go with the 510.

510 gets my vote.

Well, I did it. I bought the 510. Got it home yesterday and have worked on it most of the day today. It is a 1995 510 with the band saw attachment. After watching most of the rebuild videos on SS acadamey, I got the ways, slides, and tables cleaned up and waxed. I followed the lube steps and didn't like the way the speed control felt. So, I tore into it. I found that the retaining clip on the worm gear was not in it's groove. Is this common? Could this be because someone tried to turn the speed control without the motor running? I was able to get it back in place and all back together. After hand turning the 3' lathe face and running the speed control back and forth 6 or 7 times, and the speed control felt much better, I turn it on. It ran perfect! I was able to run it up and down without any snags, funny noises, or hicups.

After the inventory, I am missing the miter gauge, the drill chuck, and the tires on the band saw need replaced (the bottom tire was cut in two).

Any thoughts on miter gauges? Should I just get a SS model from ebay or should I purchase something different? The local wood store carries a couple different brands.

How about tires for the band saw, rubber or urethane?

Shopsmith can provide you everything that you need; new tires, miter gauge and chuck. These are probably also available on eBay but I would go with new.

The miter gauges that are available in your local woodworking outlets probably won't work. I suspect that the miter bar will be larger than the miter slot.

The Incra V120 Miter Gauge is a very good upgrade to the standard Shopsmith miter gauge. It too is available from Shopsmith or you can go direct to Incra.

Re: the drill chuck. I would look on e-bay for a model 10e/r '3326' vintage. They are plentiful and reasonably sold(pricewise) usually. With or without a key(they be easily found in hardware stores etc.) as long as it IS a jacobs chuck(one made by jacobs).

A later model MC8K26 (Multi-craft chuck(by jacobs)) would be a second choice.

The current shopsmith chuck(NOT BUILT BY JACOBS) would be my third choice. JMHO

I have been unable to find a setscrew that fits the 3326 chuck with the 5/32" allen wrench. Has anyone else found a replacement set screw for the 3326 chuck that uses the 5/32" allen wrench? Thanks.
