I've used a propane torch many times - apply a little heat to the back side of the disc (not the sandpaper side) and it peals right off - no muss no fuss. There will probably be people who say I'll deform the metal like this - but I've done it more times than I can remember and have never had a problem. You don't need to get the metal red hot - just a little warm. I usually do this with the sanding disc mounted on the Shopsmith with the table well out of the way - hold the torch in my left hand and peal the paper off with my right. Then after getting it off, I turn on the machine and use the sandpaper to remove any adhesive residue. I'm usually done in about 2-3 minutes.

Heat works work But for some reason I always ended up tearing off a portin of the paper. When that happens I like to use "Goo Gone". It does a really fine job of getting the residue off of the disk. An added benefit is the citrus smell.
