one more story on unsecured loads....... a contractor customer had this "wacker", "jumping jack" leaning up on tailgate of pickup. going down the road at 60-70 mph, guy pulls out in front he hits brakes hard.... Wacker comes forward in box 8ft. box, bends up front of box , breaks out rear window, bends back of cab, and bends seat backrest..... luckily it was on the passenger side. if passenger had been riding proably would have been fatal.. so, if load is unsecured at least put it to the front of the box so, it cant slide......

Ooops! My wife came down to see what all my laughing was about. She said I better tell you all that I value her much more than the Shopsmith .

Monday morning I call to order the new headstock. I wonder if there is still a backlog and I'll have to wait a while.

back in th e day I use to race motorcycles, sinc ethey were two stroke we usually had to rebuild them every week or two. My buddy was taking his whole engine to the machine shop and had to make a few stops and didn't want anyone steal it, so he set on the front seat of his truck next to him.

Long story short he pulled out in front of a cement truck. Getting hit with a cement truck is bad but not as bad as getting hit by a motorcycle engine flying across the front seat at you. His left side was black and blue from the shoulder to the knee from the cement truck. His right side was mostly a huge blood blister from the shoulder to knee from the engine. He walked real funny for weeks.

After seeing him I NEVER haul anything in a truck or car that isn't secure.

A number of years ago, I replaced my Model 500 headstock (c. 1956) with a much newer one. The new headstock was located across the country from me, and I wondered how the owner was going to ship it to me safely.

Imagine my surprise when it arrived packed inside one of those Rubbermaid-style plastic storage tubs! All the guy did was stick the headstock in the tub, fill the rest of the tub with some large Styrofoam blocks and wadded paper, and then just sealed the top on with strapping tape.

I'd suggest doing the same - and sticking the tub in your trunk. For less than $10, I think it's a good solution.

Order the PP this morning - and darn it - there's a 4-6 week wait. Guess I won't be using it to make Christmas presents.
