The gas tube is about 17" long. Fully extended, it cannot be more than 34". The bench tubes are about about 48" (exposed). The fixed point where the gas tube attaches is about 17" from the right end of the Mark V legs.
In other words, if you mounted two lift assists on the same set of bench tubes, the gas tube mounting points would be about 14" apart.
Added Comment: In the advertisement photo of the Mark 7 Lift Assist, it appears that the gas tube is not located between the bench tubes like it is on mine. Maybe some redesign has occurred, other than increasing the capacity of the gas cylinder.

Those distances are fixed regardless of what rotational position the headstock and way tubes are in, but the separation of the attachment points increases as it is raised to vertical. As you have provided, that increase cannot be more than something less than 17".
Perhaps one reason we be on, different pages, is that I perceive(wishful thinking?) the same hardware on the same end functioning as an assist(albeit through differing motion) for lifting using a pivot(Mark 7) on the opposite end of the tubes.
I had noticed the apparent positioning of the gas tube external to the bench tubes in the distant past and have always been concerned that what I thought should be between the bench tubes was somehow actually outside of them. Me thinks a bit of photo shop wizardry gone awry?

OK I made an incorrect 'assumption'. The dimension between the attachment of the gas tube on the arm and the pivot will change between up and down position.
What is the pivot to gas tube attachment point on the arm dimension when raised to vertical? SAT!!!
