I think what many are missing is the fact that on almost any mitre gauge with an extension attached to it as long as the one on the Osborne angle set is prone to give, slip or bend slightly. The Osborne because of the third leg of the triangle forms a rock solid support.

On a typical mitre gauge it is locked into position by tightening a clamping wing nut that is fairly close to the piviot. The length of the mitre fence itself becomes a lever working on a short pivot point.

On the Osborne the lock is way out at the end of the miter fence so the lever in effect is very short working on a very long piviot.

Mechanically the Osborne should be the strongest and best able to keep an adjustment. I think it is and does that is why I like it.

I never really used one but just playing around with one on a Dewalt I noticed it was rock solid, did not give or bend, could not be forced to slip. Mindful I was playing with a demo so I wasn't being careful (it wasn't mind ). I also was impressed with how easy it was to set an angle. Yes the SS mitre gauge is simple but this was easier.

I already experience enough unwanted encounters with protrusion of one kind or another. I shudder to think what my wounds would be like if I had that miter bar (on the infeed side of the protractor) sticking out at me.

No thanks. I'll stick with what I have; two Shopsmith and one Incra Miter Gauge.

I am intrigued by the Miter1000HD from Incra.

As a V120/Shopsmith fan, Dusty, I bet you would also find the Incra Miter Express/Shopsmith interesting, especially using the V120 and the Shopsmith safety grip. It locks extension too. {Even the 62" cutoff ext that I got for Christmas-- and have actually used.]

You are so right. Actually I drool over the Incra catalog. I would love to have all of the Incra stuff that is compatible to the Shopsmith environment. I told Santa that but the message either did not get through opr was just outright ignored.

I went so far as circling items in two or three different catalogs to NO avail. Next year I'm not even going to ask Santa.

Oh, I already started that. There should be a sleigh showing up here at any moment with stuff ordered from Shopsmith.

Touting both. Though touting the Kreg on this site is a waste of energy as they no longer produce one for the SS.

Thanks for the offer to take it off my hands, however I think I'll hang on to it for a while, anyway.

Ahh! But! Since my Shopsmith miter gauge is equipped with the Shopsmith aluminum extension, and it has the sand paper face, wood is adequately held by my miter gauge.

Sorry your ardor has cooled - Maybe you can get some love back during the "New Year".

A great feature of my MiterSet is - when not in use it fits into a small drawer.

Interesting thread in light of my present "issues" with getting square cuts. I have looked at the miterset and incura stuff. I like the SS miter gauge, but I have difficulties getting it set. You might have sold me on the miterset.
