You could drill and tap them for 5/16-18 and replace the setscrews. You could make an insert from 1/4" mdf to use for the time being for the bandsaw. There ARE options! We do like supporting SS though! Save up and get several things at once to minimize shipping.

Thanks JPG and others,
I am A-OK with the buying the SS collars and set screws. I will probably place an order with SS INC for the bandsaw insert, collars and screws, power coupler and two key chucks, one for the headstock and one for the tailstock.
I have priced out some nice lathe chucks and that will have to wait a bit as my budget is tight. In the meantime I might just run into a good used one or sumpin'. (CL, fleabay or word of mouth)
I have seen many of the SS owners making those nice little benches underneath the SS legs. I like that and plan to make something similar. I like organization.

For anyone interested, this is a link with a picture of a 2 jaw self centering lathe chuck. This is what works well for holding square pieces of briarwood when shaping tobacco pipes. I'd love to find a good used one.

Interesting! a 4 jaw with 2 jaws removed!:D That might be an option. The face of the jaws may not be what you need(flat).
A 'tailstock' key chuck?????????

a coupler that will engage the headstock to the bandsaw (note the headstock stubshaft has 4 grooves on it and the bandsaw hub has 5 grooves. They both have the same outside diameter. Do I need to change one or are there couplers that will slide right onto my setup?

Yes, the flat jaws would be best. I do not want those graduated step-up jaws that are so common.
Heres a tailstock keychuck set-up
I won't get that specific style but one similar.
