Hermit of the Hills Woodworks, a hillbilly in the foothills of the Ozarks, scraping by.
Oh Man you did a beeeeeeeautiful job! I have a 56 that i have been toying with refurbishing but I would be so much further ahead to just buy yours but---not the same thing is it. I was going to make a Mini out of mine.
I just bought what looks like a never been used Magna Jig Saw but it has a 1/2" shaft and obviously I have a problem if I want to mount it on my 510. I don't have a manual so I really hate too tear it apart any ideas on how to make the transition, Again cheers for a job well done.

You need a 5 spline drive hub with a 1/2" hole in it to mate up with the normal plastic connector. I believe the jointer uses the same 1/2" hub, available from Shopsmith.

All the SPTs use a 1/2" shaft, whereas the quill is a 5/8" shaft. You can either snag a hub from another SPT or buy one off of shopsmith/ebaymel wrote:Oh Man you did a beeeeeeeautiful job! Actually, the SPT's have either a 1/2" or 5/8" shaft, not just 1/2". The coupling kit that Shopsmith sells offers hubs for the headstock and SPT hubs in 1/2" and 5/8" bore diameters.damagi wrote:All the SPTs use a 1/2" shaft, whereas the quill is a 5/8" shaft. But honey it way born the same year you were, 1955 (close) and I think it was in August and it is beautiful just like you. She says "Really" ? Yeah baby really, come look at it. She says "well the garage sure looks familiar! OK here's the deal---- Its MINE and it goes on my side of the garage AND you can't touch it. I want to have SOMETHING in this freaking garage thats MINE! Sooooooooo if you want to hassel the shipping (I'll pay) all the way here to the left coast we can adopt your baby. Mel
