Interesting! The choice is not as clear-cut as I thought. I'll take some passes at maple, oak, and cocobolo tonight and examine the cut quality. After that, I'll do a quick disassemble of the blade and fence quadrant assemblies to see if anything comes up.
Otherwise, yeah, they are like EXACTLY the same other than the paint color. It's really cool that the design was just right enough to stay alive and intact over so many years!
