In my line of work , I see large heavy duty Tinnermans stripped on commercial air handler doors all the time. The ones that are stripped the most are the hex head screws. They get stripped by people putting them in with a cordless drill and not setting the clutch properly.

Since it takes no time to tighten the screws in the headstock with a screwdriver, stripping the Tinnermans shouldn't be a problem, plus they are easy to replace. I'd say that's an easy solution. So would using a standard pan head with nut and washer, at least temporarily. But those would definitely go clinking to the floor.

How does one access the nut inside the motor pan/belt cover when tightening???;)
I like the sheet metal 'fix' the best. There is no indented surface on the tapped headstock for the tinnerman clip. Keep in mind the 'tinnerman' screws are not a machine thread, but more like a course self threading screw.
JB Weld a nut on the inside of the headstock?????:rolleyes:

but I think it might have been.
My question about those screws is why when you drop one (and they do escape often) can they not just drop to the floor? Why do they ALWAYS have to roll under something else??? They will roll 10' if need be just to crawl into a bad spot to be found. An old speaker magnet on a stick can be your friend.
