I agree DD. I think a couple of hours of cleaning and lubing/alignment and she will be good to go provided there isn't any bearing replacement involved. I am really stoked to say the least. I even got two complete saw guards one older and one newer plus the shaper fence. Both of which I just purchased off of Fleabay and neither of which were complete.

Measure the miter track in the mystery table. If it is a Shopsmith item, those dimensions will be the same as those in the main table.

The confusion (for me at least) is the grooving pattern on the work surface. Sure looks like Shopsmith though I don't think it is.

my guess is that its for a belt sander. Perhaps a clone, but more likely a craftsman or something.

Well I got out to the garage this evening to put the Mark V back together and see if it would run. Plugged it in and turned it on and it spun very slowly and finally popped the breaker so I knew what had to be done. I removed the headstock and put it on the bench and started to disassemble it. I ran in to several problems. #1 the collar on the quill had a stripped set screw so that got drilled out and i got the collar off. The next problem was getting the Poly V drive shaft out of the main casting. I tried everything i know and it would only move a little bit and unfortunately while working on it and trying to press it out of the casting I cracked the main headstock casting so that is toast. I finally did get the shaft out of the casting but not before doing major damage. I had no problems with my other 2 Shopsmith headstocks and did everything the same way i did the last 2 but this time I guess the parts were far too stuck to come out easily or without causing damage. I am not that worried about it as I have another headstock on my 54' Greenie that is a 3/4 hp. and Gilmer setup so i can transfer all of the parts from this 1 1/8 hp. Poly V headstock in that casting. The bearings were all pretty much shot to heck so they will need to be replaced. Really strange because this headstock was very clean on the surface but when I started taking things apart I found rust deep inside many of the parts, mainly the Poly V shaft, bearing races, and the intermediate shaft for the sheaves. The motor ran fine when I got it disconnected from the sheaves so that is a big plus. So unless i can find a cheap bare headstock casting this one may be turned into a parts machine.

Contact Shopsmith. They are taking in all these trade ins. THEY MUST BE STOCK PILING SOME CHASSIS.:rolleyes:

Then again, maybe their object is to take them out of service.

I just put in a bid for a Type B casting through his auction thanks for the heads up. Did you sell your mini yet? I was thinking about maybe making a mini out of one of my three machines. How long do you make the tubes for a mini? I have a power station so I am not sure if I really need a mini at tis point but it was a thought.

For a Mini, I cut the bench tubes in half. The way tubes should be 3/4" shorter than the resulting cut bench tubes. I like the Mini's....more power and an extra place to store an SPT or an extension table. I have kept a Crafter's station because of the ability to run in both directions. I need to build another Mini as I am down to one. First I need to get a couple of Mark V's, jointers, dust collectors, bandsaws and belt sander out of the way so I have some room to work.]

FWIW one can cut either a pair of way tubes or a pair of bench tubes such that one 'half' of each is 3/4" longer than the other 'half'. Thus you get a mini set from only two previous tubes.

i.e. from one 52" way tube you get one 25 5/8" and one 26 3/8" 'halves'.
.......one 52 3/4" bench tube yields one 26" and one 26 3/4" 'halves'.
