I had never thought of that with regards to pallets before. Below is an article talking some more about the dangers of pallets that have been treated with chemicals.

I am a ret. fireman/paramedic. I want to pass on that, in my many pallet fires I responded to, the smoke and dust from these things is downright dangerous. I used to use old pallet wood for stuff, but after the DOT training telling us how much stuff is used to treat these things, I am scared to use them for anything other than what they were made for. Arsenic, cyanide, ethilene glycol, formalihyde, and about 6 different pesticides, are used in the making of some pallets. I know the oak ones are tempting to use for projects, but it just isn't worth it! jimsjinx

Yeppers, its a raw deal as in my area theres companies almost begging people to take used pallets off their hands..We bought a LOPI ENDEAVOR this last Nov. I considered pallets till wife showed me articles..
