What to do with 2 complete setups

I haven't. I actually don't have it home yet. The guy I am buying it from lives 30 minutes away and it has been raining the last two days. I just don't want to transport it in my pick up uncovered. I think I am just going to go get it tonight though.

Hopefully after a clean and lubrication, and maybe a new belt if needed it will go fine. The motor sounds great, it is just slow to respond. As well, it seems to at times go to a lower pitch vs higher when I get all the way up to top speed. I think it is mainly the lubrication and belt but I can only hope.

The hour I played around with it was enough to sell me on the chance. Even if the motor ends up needing repaired, the upgrades I get out of it are worth the money alone.

1) Clean up and lube the sheaves. They are probably not sliding freely and would explain the sluggish speed change and fluctuations.

2) Examine those duplicate SPT's and determine which are in the best condition(I am assuming I understand your pragmatic attitude re emotional attachment) and decide if/which you might want to disperse. I predict the 'newer seldom used' ones are in better condition.

3) If I understand correctly that you have BOTH a stand alone scroll saw and a scroll saw attachment(SPT), and if the stand alone is shopsmith, the spt becomes dispersable. If not, decision time.

4) In any event, keep both ss as is or converted(shorty/mini) and at least one each of the spt's. Any thing less will lead to remorse later!

P.S. It is impossible to have too many sanding disks! All those smaller attachments are handy to have as duplicates.

I love having two SS's.

The 520 is usually set up in tablesaw-jointer mode with extension tables.

The 510 handles drillpress, mortising, drum sanding in the upright position, or disc sanding or bandsaw otherwise. I kept both bandsaws with one dedicated for resawing.

Having just gotten my 2nd SS, I'm tickled pink with the possibilities.

If I were in your situation, I would sell the duplicates, keeping the best for myself, and convert the older SS into a mini dedicated to the SPTs, most likely the bandsaw and sander, leaving the 520 set up for sawing and jointing.

As is, you are very blessed to have such a dilemna!

As you have learned, Greenies, Gray 500's, 510's, and the occasional 520, are fairly easy to come by in Ohio, which means that you can't get much for them. I picked up a 520 (upgraded 510) two weeks ago for $450. It came with the complete shaper package and a bunch of other stuff, but no SPT's. I was going to pick up a greenie that had been upgraded to a 510 near Cincinnati for $400 before the other one came along.

I also think making Grandpa's 510 a shorty is a good idea.

As others have said, you could try selling the duplicate items to recover some of your cash. FeEbay may be the way to go for shippable items. If your bandsaw is one of the old green Magna bandsaws I may be interested just because I thik it would look cool setting on my father-in-law's greenie. I'll send you a PM

I am leaning toward keeping the shopsmith and selling some of the accessories as I don't need them all.

The scroll saw is indeed shopsmith, just like the current model they sell with the stand included. It is stand alone scroll saw and works wonders. The other is the scroll saw for the shopsmith powered by the shopsmith, still in good condition but will never be used as the other is much nicer.

I will most likely sell the scroll saw attachment and the magna jointer and extra belt sander. I just don't need them. The other bandsaw I will keep. I might even sell the table extensions. who knows.

I know you can not sell on this forum but the cleveland craigslist could work out ok. But for the moment i will just sit on them a bit and contemplate it.

Keep the SS and sell what you don't need/want. I have three now and I am thinking about turning my 54' Greenie into a shorty for dedicated SPT use. I have not had much luck selling it and it is pristine after I renovated it from the ground up but I could not get anyone in my area interested so she is going to become a shorty I believe. I would keep the jointer as mine is used all the time now and it is an indispensible tool for woodworking indeed. Now I want a planer.......
