In that case, you could possibly do even better than EMT. Her employer can probably requisition steel tubing at wholesale.

there is a seller from St. Louis MO, ssshapiro, that sells various lengths of 1" x 0.065" steel tubing on ebay. Shipping is expensive for a single piece, but they will combine to reduce the overall cost for multiple pieces. I've been thinking about a couple of 8 footer just in case I really want to get crazy.
